LINC’s Sip & Sort event was a great success. During Columbus YP Week, 70 young professionals came out to help sort nearly 4,000 donated children's books from LINC's previous Books & Brews event. We enjoyed pizza and Land-Grant beer and in record time guests had all books sorted and boxed by age, ready to go for our agency partners to pick up later in the week. Thanks to all who came out to help get more books to kids in need in our community. We could never have sorted all 4,000 books so quickly and efficiently without all of YOU!
The following United Way of Central Ohio agency partners received a portion of the books to distribute to the children and families they serve:
- St. Stephens
- Big Brothers Big Sisters
- Community Development for All People
- Columbus Early Learning
- Columbus City Schools
- Columbus Franklin County Kids
- Community Shelter Board
- Boys and Girls Club
Why collect books and why the need to sort them?
Every child, regardless of economic background, deserves access to books in their home. Unfortunately, one in three families in central Ohio can't meet basic living expenses so books just aren't in the budget. These book donations help provide more kids with crucial tools for development of vocabulary, literacy, fine motor skills, etc.
At United Way LINC's fourth annual Books & Brews children's book drive in February the guests were more generous than ever, helping to collect nearly 4,000 books!!! In order to distribute the books to agency partners the donations must first be organized by age. This saves our nonprofit partners precious time and allows them to get the books into kids hands as quickly as possible.
